Spring is almost here! It's Cleansing Time!
There is so much to talk about this month, but I'm choosing to focus on doing some spring cleaning. Just as many people get geared up for a thorough house cleaning after the winter, opening the windows to the fresh air, getting down the warm weather clothes and putting in storage the winter duds, we encourage you to do the same for your body. But what's the best way to do that, and where do you begin.
The first thing you want to do is to take an inventory of your health today. How's your body feel? Any aches, pains, or discomfort? How's your energy level, sleep patterns, water intake, & exercise routine? How much processed foods are you consuming in comparison to whole, fresh produce? Once you've taken an inventory, then you can decide if what you are doing is "working for you". In other words, do you feel great? Do you have energy to burn? Are you exercising, drinking plenty of water, sleeping well, & eating health giving foods? If not, then now is a great time to cleanse the body of the garbage & start making some changes.
One of the cleansing processes is a colon cleanse. We recommend colon hydrotherapy for a gentle, non-toxic, and thorough cleansing. Colon Hydrotherapy is simply "water in, waste out", but for some people it may make a huge difference in how they feel because they have had long term issues with the "waste out" part! Another cleanse that many people choose to do yearly is a parasite cleanse. Parasites are organisms that feed off of their host (you) and leave their waste for the host (you again) to handle. Sound like the ideal guest does it not? Well, it has been estimated that 70% or higher of Americans have parasites! These pesky critters invade our bodies either by contact with the skin or oral ingestion. Generally speaking, if you have pets you have an even higher likelihood of having parasites. There is also a whole body cleanse, that deals with both cleansing at the tissue level & in the colon. When doing this type of a cleanse, we suggest that one begins supporting the Liver & Kidneys for 2 weeks prior to doing the cleanse. This is to help those organs be better prepared for the additional toxic elements with which they will need to deal as you cleanse. Many times people will do some kind of fast or other cleansing method to help get a jump start on a healthier lifestyle choice. Although we don't encourage water fasting on a regular basis, some people find it beneficial on occasion. Others may try a juice fast (drinking only freshly made vegetable juices for several days), or perhaps a fruit "feast" (eating only fruits for several days). Any of these are generally recognized as safe for a few days, however for long term fasts or for those with serious health issues, we suggest having someone supervise any fasting.

Recipe of the Month
Mock Salmon Pate: This is delicious in a lettuce wrap or cabbage leaf wrap!
Combine all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until smooth (or to desired consistency)
|2 cups walnuts
1 large scallion (or green onion
2 stalks celery
|1 tsp sea salt
1 large red bell pepper
|1 cup tomatoes, finely chopped
1 cup carrots, finely chopped
1/2 cup red onions, finely chopped
1 cup cucumbers, finely chopped
1/2 cup almonds, sliced (optional)
1/2 cup mung bean sprouts (optional)
1/2 cup alfalfa sprouts
| 1/2 cup zucchini, finely chopped
1/2 cup yellow squash, finely chopped
2 avocados, peeled & mashed
2 tsp lemon juice, fresh
1 bunch Romaine lettuce leaves
Any other vegetables you like, mix & match according to your preferences!
Mix avocado with lemon juice and seasonings to taste. Spread on romaine leaves. Toss other ingredients, except sprouts, together then spread on top of avocado pate`. Top with sprouts, roll up, and serve.
Health Tid-bit: Achieving Total Health
It is the natural, default state to be in thriving, vibrant health! When we are not, 90% of the time it is something we have done or not done! Remember, the health we have is the health we have created! In a recent article on longevity it was suggested that 30% of longevity is out of our control, meaning that our genetic make-up or hereditary determines how long we live or don't live. That means, according to researchers, that 70% is up to us. In other words, we determine our longevity by the things we do or don't do to our body. Some researchers say that is more like 90%! Either way, research shows that we have the greatest control over our health & longevity, not our parents, grandparents, or anyone else! It is up to us! Think about that the next time you are considering your health!
